conText is an application intended to raise awareness about the ecological impact of urban production within the city of Boston. The Charles River Esplanade is appropriated by the application as a navigational device for collecting point source pollutants in the form of air, land, and water toxins. Reading the toxin source data as a “text” which could be inserted into the narrative of an existing walking tour, our application attempts to mediate the perceived importance of city monuments, by “polluting” their narratives.
